The Lantern
Introduction
It is an octagonal prism made up of two superimposed Gothic-style bodies.
Lower and upper part
The lower part was built in the 14th century, while the upper part or second body, was built in 1430, by Martí Llobet master builder of that time time.
Eight windows
Each body has eight windows, providing the entrance of natural light to the transept of the Cathedral.
A ribbed vault
The lantern tower rests on four conical horns, and is closed with a ribbed vault, made up of eight ribs.
40 metres high
With its 40 metres high, the lack of buttresses and the lightness that its walls spreads, the lantern tower stands out for being a prodigious architectural construction, of great complexity.
