Chapel of Blessed Josefa Naval Girbés
Josefa Naval was born in Algemesí (Valencia) on 11th December 1820 and died in the same town on 24th February 1893. From her youth, she consecrated her virginity to the Lord in order to serve the Church, symbolised in her parish, and under the priests’ spiritual direction. She led a deep pious life and she was able to transmit her devotion to her neighbours, leaving a deep spiritual mark which inspired many religious and sacerdotal vocations. She worked hard for the human and Christian promotion of the young women, teaching them some professions and raising their social dignity. In Algemesí and its region she is still remembered as “Mrs. Pepa”. She was beatified by John Paul II on 25th September 1983, and she is the first devoted secular of Valencia raised to the altars. Her liturgical memory is celebrated on 6th November.
