Saint Catherine was born in a noble family in Alexandria (Egypt). She suffered some torments and publicly contradicted the mistakes of the pagan philosophers. In the past, she was patron saint of the Philosophy students and teachers. She is the patron saint of the watchmakers due to she was tortured with the toothed wheel (“Catherine wheel”). She was beheaded by order of the emperor Maxentius in the year 307. Her feast day is celebrated in many places on 25th November.
