Introduction

The Sacristy is one of the oldest elements of the cathedral, dating back to the 13th century, and located at the beginning of the ambulatory, just where it comes into contact with the transept.

It is a space with a square plan, covered with a ribbed vault and illuminated by a large window.

Portraits of Bishops and Archbishops

Now the portraits of the Bishops and Archbishops of Valencia since the reconquest of the Kingdom in 1238 are exhibited in this room.

Portraits of Bishops and Archbishops

The series was commissioned by San Juan de Ribera to Juan de Juanes in the 16th century. The first fifteen were painted with the “guadamacil” technique (artistically painted or carved leather) and the following on panel and on canvas from the 18th century.
