Arch over Barchilla Street

Introduction

Following the perimeter of the Cathedral, at the entrance of the Barchilla Street, there is an arch that connects the Archbishop’s Palace with the Cathedral.

Arch to the archiepiscopal palace

It was Bishop Hugo de Fenollet who, in the middle of the 14th century, managed the construction of this arch, despite the fact that, later, in 1427, it was demolished.

The arch is of later construction

The bridge that can be seen today was built in the eighteenth century, following the Renaissance style, and is characterized by being a lowered arch on which stands an architectural complex composed of a triangular facade, in addition to three ornamental vases that finish off the structure.

And so we move away from the building corresponding to the exterior of the Cathedral, on Barchilla Street, whose historical interest is great, due to the cemeteries and buildings that were there.
