Old Chapel of the Tapiners
Introduction
Before the arch there is a door through which one entered an old chapel that used to be “dels tapiners” today dedicated to Saint Vincent Ferrer.
Building date
The chapel, located on the outside of the Obra Nova and closed by an iron fence, is dated in the 15th century.
The chapel
This chapel has a six-part vault, that is, made up of six parts joined by an oculus.
The Brotherhood of Saint Peter
Originally, it was given to the Confraternity of Saint Peter called ‘‘dels Tapiners’’, which the name comes from, until 1775, being used for other matters.
Dedicated to Saint Vicent Ferrer
At present, and after the restauration that took place in 2006, it is presented as a chapel dedicated to Saint Vincent Ferrer, as shown by the ceramic plaque in honour of the patron saint of the city.
Inside there is a sculpture of the saint in an attitude of blessing, a work of the Valencian sculptor Rafael Orellano.
