Key information
The Gate of the Apostles
Introduction
This door of the Cathedral receives its name from the twelve apostles that constitute its entrance.
The Apostles’ Door is opened to the Virgin’s Square. It has four pointed arches, making a triple archivolt with forty-eight reliefs in the space between the columns representing virgins, angels and the blessed.
Authors
Having built this portal over the entrance to the mosque, we know little or nothing about the author, since the artists worked for the greater glory of God.
In 1354 it was completely finished and the coats of arms that decorate the entrance also shed light on the dates in question (13th and 14th centuries).
