Information
Bell tower
Symbol of the city of Valencia
Although we only find decoration in the last architectural body, its style responds to the Valencian Gothic.
Its construction began in 1381 with Andreu Julià in charge, and finally, after some years of inactivity, it was finished in 1425, calling it ‘’Campanar Nou’’ to differentiate itself from the old Romanesque bell tower, currently non-existent.
First Hall
Shelter room
Located in the second body of the Micalet. It is known as ‘’la presó’’ (the prison), since it is where those fleeing from justice took refuge, seeking the protection of the Church, which gave them asylum.
It is a small octagonal room, gloomy, with large walls and little lighting.
The second hall
Bell ringers’ Room
Located in the third body of the bell tower. The bell ringer used to live in it, in charge of ringing the bells regularly, which would give the room its name.
The room is characterized by its vault, with a hole that would connect with the third room by ropes that would allow the ringing of bells.
