Saint Luke (23,42-43)
According to the Gospel of Saint Luke (23, 42-43), invoked Jesus from the cross in the Calvary:
Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
and Jesus answered him:
Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
In the background of the painting, we can find the description of the legend of the Penitent Thief – Saint Dismas – according to the aprocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus: When the Holy Family fled to Egypt, he defended them from the other thieves and protected them. After thirty years, he found Jesus Christ again, crucified beside him.
Once this painting was restored, it was returned to this chapel on 4th April 2000.
Saint John 19:25-27
According to the Gospel of Saint John 19:25-27
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her.
Woman, here is your son.
Then, he said to the disciple:
Here is your mother.
From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
