Chapel of the Immaculate Conception

The Immaculate Conception Polychrome wooden statue
by José María Ponsoda
(1882-1963)
The Immaculate Conception of Our Lady
The original statue for the chapel was made by the sculptor José Esteve, but in a sacrilegious attack it was badly damaged and later restored by Ponsoda in 1932. During the war, Esteve’s sculpture was definitively lost and Ponsoda was commissioned to make a new sculpture, which is the one that today is in the chapel.
The Blessed Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin. This statue is portrayed crushing the diabolic serpent of the paradise.
