Enrique Benavent Vidal

Biographical Details

At present, he presides over our local Church, in communion with the successor of Peter and with all the Bishops of the Catholic Church.

  • He pursued ecclesiastical studies at the Diocesan Seminary of Moncada,
    attending classes at the Faculty of Theology “San Vicente Ferrer”,
    where he obtained a Licentiate in Theology.
  • He holds a Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
  • RecibiHe was ordained a priest in Valencia by Pope John Paul II
    on 8 November 1982.
  • He was appointed Titular Bishop of Rotdon and Auxiliary Bishop of Valencia on 8 November 2004.
  • He received episcopal ordination on 8 January 2005.
  • He was appointed Bishop of Tortosa on 17 May 2013,
    commencing his episcopal ministry in that See on 13 July of the same year.

Pastoral Roles

Throughout his priestly ministry, he has undertaken various responsibilities:

  • Coadjutor of the Parish of San Roque and San Sebastián in Alcoy
    and Religion teacher at the Institute.
  • Instructor at the Major Seminary of Moncada and professor of Theological Synthesis for deacons.
  • Episcopal Delegate for Vocational Pastoral Ministry.
  • Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Faculty of Theology “San Vicente Ferrer” in Valencia.
  • Professor at the Valencia Section of the Pontifical “John Paul II” Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family.
  • Principal of the “San Juan de Ribera” College in Burjassot.
  • Vice-Dean of “San Vicente Ferrer” Faculty of Theology in Valencia and Principal of its Diocesan Section.
  • Dean-President of “San Vicente Ferrer” Faculty of Theology
  • Auxiliary Bishop of Valencia.

Spanish Episcopal Conference

  • Member of the Episcopal Commission for Seminaries and Universities (2005–2017).
  • Member of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith (2008-2017).
  • President of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith since March 2017.
  • Member of the Permanent Commission since March 2017.

Tarraconense Episcopal Conference

  • Bishop responsible for the area of missions since 2014.
