L’arquebisbe de Val\u00e8ncia Andr\u00e9s Mayoral (1685-1769) va constituir en el palau arquebisbal en 1761 una biblioteca i un museu d’antiguitats. Malgrat que es tracta d’una col\u00b7lecci\u00f3 desvinculada a l’actual Museu de la Catedral, cal esmentar-lo en ser el primer intent de creaci\u00f3 d’un museu de titularitat eclesi\u00e0stica en la di\u00f2cesi valentina.<\/p>\n

Aquest primer museu va estar en el Palau Arquebisbal fins que va desapar\u00e9ixer durant la invasi\u00f3 francesa en 1812.<\/p>\n

L’Aula Capitular Nova, constru\u00efda per l’arquitecte Joaqu\u00edn Tom\u00e1s y Sanz a principis del segle XIX, es va destinar per albergar pintures notables a manera de pinacoteca.<\/p>\n

El \u201cMuseu Arqueol\u00f2gic Dioces\u00e0\u201d<\/em> va ser constitu\u00eft a la fi de 1922 pel cardenal Enrique Reig Casanova,<\/strong> que desitjava reunir les obres que es trobaven disperses per la di\u00f2cesi en una \u00fanica col\u00b7lecci\u00f3 organitzada i accessible.<\/p>\n

L’\u00faltim per\u00edode del Museu Arqueol\u00f2gic Dioces\u00e0 est\u00e0 vinculat a la Catedral de Val\u00e8ncia. En 1954, el Cap\u00edtol i l’Arquebisbat van crear el Museu Catedralici<\/strong>, amb la finalitat de catalogar i exhibir d’una manera m\u00e9s racional que en el seu empla\u00e7ament original, algunes peces de destacat valor, de la col\u00b7lecci\u00f3 catedral\u00edcia.<\/p>\n

Va ser cap a 1966 quan l’arquebisbe Marcelino Olaechea<\/strong>, va disposar que el Museu Catedralici<\/em> passara a ser tamb\u00e9 Museu Dioces\u00e0<\/em>, fonent totes dues institucions en nom\u00e9s una, en la qual es reuniren totes les obres.<\/p>\n

Es va construir un edifici nou, adossat a la Catedral i amb acc\u00e9s \u00fanic des de l’interior d’aquesta. Situat entre l’Aula Capitular Vella, la capella de Sant Francesc de Borja i el carrer Barcella. \u00c9s a dir, s’instal\u00b7laria en el que antany eren els departaments de f\u00e0brica, vestuari de canonges i tresor. El projecte del museu es va encarregar a l’arquitecte Vicente Traver.<\/p>\n

L’edifici que cont\u00e9 el Museu va ser rehabilitat en 2015 amb la finalitat de poder ampliar l’oferta expositiva i al seu torn millorar les instal\u00b7lacions del Museu Catedral de Val\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n

El nou museu de la Catedral va ser inaugurat i bene\u00eft el dia 7 de juny de 2016, per l’Emm. i Rvdm. Sr. Cardenal Antonio Ca\u00f1izares Llovera, Arquebisbe de Val\u00e8ncia. Sent deg\u00e0-president l’Il\u00b7lm. Sr. Emilio Aliaga Girb\u00e9s i director del Museu el canonge conservador del Patrimoni Art\u00edstic de la Catedral, Sr. Jaime Sancho Andreu. Aquests treballs de rehabilitaci\u00f3 van ser dirigits per l’arquitecte de la Seu, Salvador Vila Ferrer.<\/p>\n
